CONSUMER GUIDE · BEND, OREGON · 2024
Getting multiple landscape proposals is smart — but only if you know how to compare them. A low bid isn't always a good deal, and a high bid isn't always better quality. Here's how to read a landscape proposal and make a confident decision.
When comparing bids, make sure you're comparing the same scope of work. A bid that's $5,000 lower might be using thinner pavers, a shallower base, or cheaper plants.
Ask each contractor to specify exactly what's included. If one bid is significantly lower, ask why — sometimes it's efficiency, but often it's corners being cut.
PRO TIP
The cheapest bid is rarely the best value. In landscaping, the cost of fixing poor work almost always exceeds the savings from the lower initial price. Focus on value — quality materials, experienced crew, and a solid warranty.
