Westside Outdoor Living Space

Project Overview

Description: Outdoor Living Space Creation
Time to Build: 16 Weeks
Neighborhood: Westside on the Deschutes River
Date: 2016

Project Details

The original space was a steep hill with nothing more than some sage and rabbit brush and boulder outcroppings. The owners wanted to reinvent the space to provide room to entertain and to further enjoy the view of the Deschutes River.

  • Pondless Water Feature: graded the hill and installed 40ft long stream with mossy boulders.
  • Pressure-Treated Deck: we used plastic Silca grate for a foundation and Belgard Rustic Lafitt pavers for the top of the deck.
  • Reinforced Existing Deck:  the old warped Trex was removed and we refinished the deck surface with Belgard Rustic Lafitt pavers.
  • Covered Existing Deck: using cedar (tongue and groove), we covered the patio closest to the river and installed recessed lighting and infrared heaters.
  • Deck Railing: installed new powder coated cable wire railing.
  • Sunk Hottub: A hot tub was sunk into the new deck.
  • New Patio: using Belgard Mega Arbel pavers. We left the edges natural. We installed a boulder for a bridge over the stream which transitioned the patio to the new deck.
  • Outdoor Fireplace and Chimney: we built an Isokern natural gas fire chimney and covered it in a Sebastian veneer and 2″ mahogany flagstone.
  • Landscape Lighting: installed 50 FX Luminaire landscape lights for mood enhancement. These lights can change color and brightness via an app on your phone.
  • Landscaping: we replanted the entire area with over 250 new trees, shrubs, and perennials, as well as re-barked the entire property with dark hemlock.
